Fashion and clothing at Wheelock Place

Menswear tailoring, homegrown womenswear, footwear, underwear and eyewear frames — concentrated on Basement 2, Level 2 and Level 3.

Wheelock Place takes a deliberately different position from the malls across the road. There are no vast fast-fashion floors here and no luxury flagships. Instead the mix leans towards menswear tailoring, small independent labels and specialist footwear, which suits both the office population upstairs and the residents of the Orchard, Tanglin and Claymore neighbourhoods around it.

Menswear is the strongest single thread. Benjamin Barker and The Shirt Bar both sit on Level 2 and both cover shirting, suiting and made-to-measure. This is the part of the mall that fills at lunchtime and just after six, when men from the tower come down for a fitting or an alteration. Gordon Max and Mazzario on Level 3 continue the tailoring theme.

Basement 2 carries the recognisable international names and is the fastest stop if you are passing through from the MRT. Calvin Klein Underwear and Calvin Klein Performance occupy adjoining units, with Superga for canvas sneakers, Melissa for moulded plastic footwear and TRT nearby. Southaven sits one level up in Basement 1.

Level 2 mixes footwear, eyewear and independent womenswear: Dr. Martens for boots, the French eyewear house Lafont for frames, and Y21, G R A Y E and Tessellate.Co for contemporary womenswear. Level 3 runs smaller and more specialised again, with Arch Angel, BENNO, Rustic Room, mimi mono and the comfort-footwear specialist Fly Flot.

A note on how to shop here. The independent boutiques carry shallow stock and rotate quickly, so sizes and colourways sell out and are not always replaced. Staff in the smaller shops generally know their inventory in detail and will tell you honestly whether a size is coming back. Alterations on tailoring are usually offered in-house with a turnaround of a few days.

Answers

Questions about fashion at Wheelock Place

Does Wheelock Place have menswear tailoring?

Yes, and it is one of the mall’s strengths. Benjamin Barker and The Shirt Bar on Level 2 both offer shirting, suiting and made-to-measure services, with Gordon Max and Mazzario on Level 3 adding further tailoring options. Alterations are typically handled in-house.

Where are the shoe shops?

Footwear is spread across three levels. Basement 2 has Superga and Melissa, Level 2 has Dr. Martens, and Level 3 has Fly Flot for comfort footwear. Marks & Spencer on Level 1 also carries shoes as part of its clothing range.

Is there a Zara or H&M at Wheelock Place?

No. The large fast-fashion chains are in the neighbouring malls rather than here — Zara has long been associated with Liat Towers next door, and ION Orchard across the road carries the bigger high-street names. Wheelock Place deliberately runs a smaller, more independent mix.
